Are you preparing for a new addition to your family or maybe you have just welcomed your little one into this crazy world. As a new or soon-to-be Mum we are filled with endless questions, like what kind of clothes are good for newborns?
We have a newborn clothes checklist that might help you determine what you'll need in your baby's first months. Dressing a newborn isn't complicated, however there are some things to consider when selected items to fill your baby's wardrobe with.
Call them what you want, they all have one thing in common. They are one-piece newborn outfits. These are going to be your primary clothing choice for your newborn baby. They're convenient, simple, adorable, and affordable enough that you can stock up on them and not feel too bad buying new ones as and when required.
There are a few qualities that you want to look for when it comes to baby rompers.
The priority is comfort. Your baby will spend a lot of their time in these. They will sleep in them, play in them, eat in them, and do all of their other daily activities in them.
You want soft fabrics without any irritating materials or embroidered motifs . The material should be of a decent quality and able to withstand frequent washing. You should also consider only buying 100% cotton bodysuits. Cotton is a breathable fabric that is less likely to cause skin irritations and rashes.
In most cases you get what you pay for with baby clothes. By all means stock up on cheap bodysuits from the major retailers, they are great home outfits or feeding outfits. However they are likely to distort after a few washes. We are not saying you need to buy the most expensive baby clothes you can find, sadly these do not always last either however they are more likely to be a better fabric and make than their cheaper counter parts.
It's also crucial that you think about nappy changes. Quick, easy with limited mess nappy changes is what you want. Access directly to the nappy via snap press studs or zippers is the most convenient. This means that you don't have to undress your baby from the shoulders for nappy changes.
You should have a mix of summer, long sleeves and extra warm clothes in your newborn's wardrobe. When babies are born, they come out of a warm and cosy 36-38 degrees. For the first few day's it's important to keep them warm and rugged up. You need to be prepared for day and night temperatures to vary so have a range of clothes on hand. As babies grow, you can start to have more defined summer and winter wardrobes.
Newborn babies aren't going outside in fully-accessorized outfits, but with both baby girl clothes and baby boy clothes, there are several cute and practical accessories you should look at when you're shopping.
Your new baby is going to need absorbent bibs. Babies are on a liquid diet, and it's more common than not for little milky spews to happen. A good bib is a great buffer that can save clothes was getting wet or messy.
You may like to contemplate buying some footwear. While your newborn may not be out walking anytime soon, baby socks and shoes can protect their feet and toes from the elements when you're out and about. Infant shoes are more like booties made to look like shoes, they are a great fashion item and ridiculously cute.
While not technically a clothing item, a good wrap or swaddle is a must-have for any new parent. There are many types of wraps and swaddles on the market, wrap that is at least 100cm x100cm is versatile and can be used as a swaddle or cot, pram or car blanket.
